Human nature is full of surprises. Sometimes, those who we expect to love us are the one that hurt us very bad. Those who love us are the ones who abuse us. Why is that? Mysterious huh! They are the closest to us.
It is for this reason that I believe human nature is a mystery. We tend to want to call those individual who behave in that way socio-paths or psycho or sick or whatever comes to our mind in an effort to explain these behaviors. It is difficult for the abused to explain away behavior that is hurtful. It is traumatic for the abused to dismiss their experience and indeed it is sad if the victim is blamed for the abuse they face. But unfortunately, our society tends to do just that. We blame the abused for the suffering they are exposed to. Why do we do that?
One thing is for sure! If you have been in an abused situation or relationship, never ever blame yourself no matter what others may think. No one in their right mind would put themselves in a situation where they would get abused or hurt. We always count on the sanity of humans and trust that those we get close to will treat us as humans with dignity. What others think is irrelevant.
Always remember that you still have the power and the upper hand in the whole situation. In spite of everything, you are always in control of yourself. Never give up on yourself no matter what. Never play victim and never give up on the power you still have even when you may appear powerless. Michael J Fox once shared great words of wisdom. He reminds us all that “One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.” ― Michael J. Fox
Your dignity is yours to keep to hold on and to count on. Keep it and be proud of it regardless of what you go through. Peace!!
